Double Ditch Indian Village

Double Ditch Indian Village, located 7 miles north on Highway 1804 in Bismarck, is a large earth lodge village that was inhabited by the Mandan Indians for nearly 300 years between 1490 and 1785 AD. The earth lodge villages were centers of trade between the Mandan and their neighbors, and later Euro-American traders. A smallpox epidemic is believed to be responsible of the abandonment of Double Ditch. Today visitors will see the remains of earth lodges, refuse mounds and the surrounding fortification ditches, as well as eight interactive signs on site. Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is not only rich in history, it's also an outdoor-lover’s playground, offering camping and a variety of scenic hiking trails. Take a trip back to the 1800s on board the Fort Lincoln Trolley, which takes you along the banks of the Heart and Missouri Rivers and into the Fort. Visit the reconstructed home of George Armstrong Custer, as well as the former commissary, barracks and granary. Guided tours are available throughout the day. Huff Hills Ski Resort

Located 16 miles south of Bismarck/Mandan, Huff Hills Ski Resort is North Dakota's largest ski area. Skiing and snowboarding are offered from roughly Thanksgiving weekend to the second or third week in March. There’s a dedicated area for beginners, and lessons are also available. Bismarck is also a hunting and fishing mecca and offers both year-round. You can hunt five species of upland game, six species of big game and a variety of waterfowl in the region, and fresh water fishermen can take a shot at catching salmon, walleye, northern pike, trout, bass, catfish and more.
