IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer was the subject of a recent Q&A on the meeting & event organization’s website, discussing IMEX’s 2017 education strategy for both its Frankfurt and Las Vegas shows. Bauer noted that the key “talking point” this year will be Purposeful Meetings, which she defined as a meeting or event “that’s planned with specific outcomes and attendee behaviors in mind.”
If this sounds familiar, that’s because it neatly parallels the definition that’s often used to describe successful rewards and incentive programs. Bauer goes on to explain that “There is a shift towards the intentional planning and creation of ‘memorable moments’ [rather than] meetings, and ‘experiences’ [rather than] events. This again mirrors the recent emphasis on experiential rewards that has become popular with incentive planners.
“Purposeful Meetings,” Bauer reiterates, “are engaging, inspiring and enjoyable with long-lasting positive outcomes. They are successful and satisfying because they’ve been planned with specific outcomes and behaviors in mind.”
This theme opens up an array of opportunities for meeting and incentive planners to work more closely together with the same ultimate objective and purpose, sharing knowledge, expertise and resources.
