Italy/Veneto: Torcello, Venice
Locanda Cipriani
Located about 30 minutes outside of Venice, the island of Torcello is a special place. Here in 1935, Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of the world-famous Harry's Bar in Venice, opened a modest inn that soon became equally famous, hosting celebrities like Charlie Chaplin, Ernest Hemingway and Paul Newman, who were drawn to the island’s serene beauty and the inn’s charm and class. The management of the inn was eventually taken over by Giuseppe’s daughter Carla, and later by her son, Bonifacio Brass. Locanda Cipriani has always been a popular place for weddings and banquets, and the current inn and restaurant can accommodate groups of up to 350 people in its various indoor and outdoor spaces. Additionally, the Locanda rose-garden is the perfect setting for a cocktail reception, buffet, or coffee break.
