The Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum preserves and exhibits the diverse and exciting history of the City of Vallejo, the former U.S. Naval Shipyard at Mare Island, and the surrounding region. The Museum is located in Vallejo’s historic Old City Hall, which was constructed in 1927 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum occupies over 25,000 square feet with exhibits maintained in five galleries. A working submarine periscope is installed though the roof and gives a panoramic view of the City and Mare Island. Interpretive murals on the central staircase tell the history of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, established in 1854 as the U.S. Navy’s first base in the Pacific. The City of Vallejo itself served as California’s state capital in 1852 and 1853. You can also hold your event at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum – a perfect location for dinners, receptions, meetings, community events, concerts and more.
