Things To Do: Hotels/Inns/B&Bs

Pikes Peak Paradise B&B

You feel like you're staying in a large country home in the mountains, because you are. The view of Pikes Peak and the Aspen and Ponderosa forests below takes your breath away, and the modern, well-designed rooms are cozy with stunning views and nicely appointed bathrooms. The price-quality ratio is high. The owner has set up a small display of unique gifts for yourself or friends and family back home, and he has set up the sloping backyard to accommodate small events such as weddings and retreats. Make sure you have good directions or a GPS, as the location is up in the hills off a series of dirt roads. more...

Chipita Lodge

You can actually stay in probably the only remaining lodge from the time of this area's tourism boom early in the last century. It is located in a picturesque quiet area under 10 miles west of Colorado springs, and has been completely modernized while retaining the log cabin, rustic flavor. more...

The Cabins at Mueller State Park

Certainly not an escape as defined by Short Escapes during the summer, the location is near magical except during the summer season when the 3 cabins and nearly 400 RV and tent camp sites are sold out. There's good reason: the setting in the foothills west of Pikes Peak is spectacular, and there are great hikes as outlined in the Outdoors section. These well-equipped cabins, each adjacent to the other amidst other camp sites, offer a bargain, with the largest four bedroom, two-bath unit renting for well under $300 a night in peak season. This is an option for large families or small reunions or organizations looking for a unique comfortable outdoors-oriented retreat. more...

The Edgewood Inn

Edgewood Inn offers a special escape for couples, weddings, and retreats. It has five rooms, all decorated with antiques and other furniture with a rustic feel. Some rooms overlook Pikes Peak, others the quiet forest surrounding this spectacular, secluded location, not far from Woodland Park. It has a 850 square foot hickory dance floor. more...

The Woodland Inn

This very affordable and pleasant B&B has a terrific location in the forest not far from Rt. 24 and Woodland Park. The owner, a potter, has an adjacent shop and even offers lessons. The rooms are all cheerfully decorated and modern, and the setting in the forest offers the opportunity for tranquil reflection without having to leave the premises. The owners also have well furnished, comfortable cottages, one of them from the 19th century tourism era, located in nearby Green Mountain Falls. more...

Valley Glen

Sit on your deck listening to the rushing waters of a mountain stream before you at this unique getaway off a dirt road not far from Mueller State Park. Three comfortable, well-equipped small houses line a narrow canyon from which trails lead uphill into the forest. It would be hard to find a more tranquil, remote retreat so near to civilization. The largest house has three bedrooms, but all are spacious. You can barbecue above or lay in a hammock near the mountain stream. more...
