USA/West: Santa Barbara, CA

The American Riviera

Santa Barbara established the world’s first official Earth Day celebration in 1969. The annual Earth Day Festival is celebrated in April in Alameda Park.

On Memorial Day weekend, the plaza at Old Mission becomes a magnet for hundreds of artists who spend days working on large-scale street paintings during the I Maddonari Italian Street Painting Festival

In August, a five-day citywide fiesta with parades, live performances and a rodeo celebrates Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days. The fiesta also aims to educate visitors about the history, customs and traditions of the American Indian, Spanish, Mexican and early American settlers to the area.
