For those who want to continue the mood created by the day’s experience, we’ve selected restaurants, hotels, inns, and bed-and-breakfasts in the countryside near our itineraries. In general, you should request a reservation well before you go. Many top restaurants, small inns and B&Bs fill up fast on popular weekends in spring, summer, and fall. Keep in mind that many of the inns and B&Bs have two-day minimum-stay requirements on weekends during peak periods. For your convenience, we also include listings for major chain hotels, since many have weekend rates, and offer reliable comforts and loyalty programs that some travelers may wish to take advantage of.

All recommended hotels and restaurants accept a major credit card unless otherwise noted; the most inexpensive restaurants may require cash.

Some hotels and restaurants for one experience may also be within easy access of another experience. Some areas do not have a wide selection of restaurants and hotels that meet Short Escapes standards. In such cases, we recommend establishments that come as close as possible to our standards.

We include all hotels and restaurants appropriate for the budget to affluent traveler, and highlight hotels, restaurants, shops, etc. of special note or reknown. Otherwise, we believe that there are a number of other valuable restaurant and travel guides you can use to finalize your selections in our Escapes. These include the Zagat restaurant guides; Frommer's, Fodor's, and other well-known names in travel guides.
