We selected the escapes for their historic, cultural, or natural interest and for their general proximity to areas popular with travelers. At each location, walking tours permit visitors to get out of their cars or the train and experience special places up close. All include private, easily accessible spots to picnic or enjoy memorable views. When possible, itineraries provide optional walks for strollers or serious walkers.
Itineraries are organized by region and are chosen so that travelers visiting in one of the selected areas can easily enjoy multiple experiences during their stay. We followed every itinerary and purposely omitted others that gave us difficulty.
To bring your visit to life, each experience comes with a narrative on historical, cultural, literary, or natural points of interest. Other unique places to explore nearby are also suggested, so you don’t have to be a walker to enjoy these experiences.
